Andrew Munson had a Michael Malone moment Monday. It was the first day of minicamp for the Nuggets’ Summer League team. Munson has worked closely with Malone for almost nine years, first as a video intern and now as Denver’s special assistant to the head coach. But Summer League is a time for aspiring coaches to get reps, too — not just burgeoning players.

If Jamal Murray is concerned at all by the pause in contract extension talks with the Nuggets, he didn’t show it Wednesday. “When we get there, we get there,” Murray said after the Canadian national team’s exhibition in Las Vegas. “I’m playing games right now for Canada, so that’s not on my mind.” Canada jumped to an 11-1 lead but lost 86-72 to the United States in the friendly showcase game ahead of the Paris Olympics.

A human skull discovered by children in Clear Creek County in 2018 has been identified, sheriff’s officials announced Wednesday. After a six-year search involving forensic anthropologists, DNA extraction and genetic testing, Colorado investigators identified the skull as David Michael Crady, who was born on Oct. 10, 1955, according to a news release from the Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office. She was 75. Duvall died Thursday in her sleep at her home in Blanco, Texas, her longtime partner, Dan Gilroy, announced.

With a heatwave of 100-degree weather on the horizon, “much of the population” across Colorado’s Eastern Plains and the Denver area will face severe heat risks over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Temperature highs of 101 degrees Friday will put the Denver area and Interstate 25 corridor under a “major risk” heat advisory, and the Eastern Plains will face “moderate” heat risks, according to NWS forecasters. A “major risk” heat advisory means that much of the population is at risk of illness from heat exposure, and a “moderate” advisory means those who are sensitive to heat or don’t have access to effective cooling and hydration are at risk, forecasters said. Temperatures are also expected to reach 101 degrees on Saturday, but the “major risk” heat advisory will expand eastward, including most of the plains in east-central Colorado, forecasters said. In Denver and areas near Fort Collins, the heat risk Saturday morning will become “extreme,” according to NWS forecasters.

In the middle of July when a heat advisory flashes across a phone to warn of 100-plus-degree days approaching, a hike to a perpetual patch of snow sounds quite inviting. That is the biggest benefit of the trail to St. Mary’s Glacier. Located near Idaho Springs, this short 1.8-mile roundtrip hike (the short length is one of the other benefits) takes hikers to a subalpine lake and to elevations near tree line to escape the heat and play in snow. Because of the accessibility of this trail into the high country without the day-long slog up steep mountains, it attracts a lot of users but bring your canine friend along and they will share in their joy of snow play.
