A proposal making its way through the Florida Legislature would limit the types of crimes for which prosecutors can unilaterally charge juveniles as adults, and it would prohibit children under the age of 13 from ever being charged in adult court. The legislation aims to limit the use of “direct file,” the legal term for charging a juvenile as an adult.
