Judge Orders End To Inmate's 36 Years Of Solitary Confinement

Arthur Johnson, 64, was convicted in the 1970 murder of a man during a street fight in Philadelphia, the Associated Press reports, but after prison officials characterized him as an "escape artist," he was put into a 7-by-10-foot cell in 1979 and kept there despite being known as a model prisoner for the past 25 years.
