David Letterman's alleged extortionist is expected to plead guilty, the New York Times reports. John Eligon and Brian Stelter report that Robert "Joe" Halderman, a producer at CBS News' "48 Hours," will plead guilty Tuesday to attempting to extort $2 million from Letterman. Halderman will be sentenced to six months in jail, four and a half year of probation, and 1,000 hours of community service, Eligon and Stelter report. Halderman is accused of attempting to extort Letterman in exchange for his silence about Letterman's affairs with staffers at the "Late Show." One of the women Letterman slept with, Stephanie Birkitt, was dating Halderman while she carried on an affair with Letterman. Halderman and his aggressive attorney, Gerald Shargel, claimed that Halderman was merely attempting to sell Letterman a screenplay about the sex scandal.
