By Jeff Amy Associated Press JACKSON – Mississippi’s jobless rate dipped slightly in January, but the state is tied with Nevada for the highest unemployment rate of any state nationwide. The jobless rate fell to 7.1 percent, down from 7.2 percent in December and 7.9 percent in January 2014. The number of Mississippians who said they had a job rose, as did the number of people seeking jobs. A separate survey shows payrolls rose by 4,600 in December, a strong expansion after months of sluggish growth.
