Iraq Civilian Death Toll Almost Doubles In July

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The number of civilians killed by violence in Iraq almost doubled in July from June, a sign that insurgents may be trying to exploit political tensions after an election that produced no outright winner.

  • Man fatally shot in Lauderhill

    An 18-year-old man died early Sunday after being shot in Lauderhill, police said. Officers with the Lauderhill Police Department responded to a shooting at about 2:59 a.m. Sunday in the 2400 block of NW 41st Avenue, where they located the victim in a parking lot. He had multiple gunshot wounds, police said. The victim, who was not named by police Sunday, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead. The police said early Sunday that they currently have no motive or suspects. Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the department at 954-497-4700 or call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 (TIPS).
