After more than two decades on the Hurricanes’ baseball staff, J.D. Arteaga will get a chance to run the program. The long-time Miami pitching coach was named head coach on Monday, a source told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Arteaga replaces Gino DiMare, who stepped down after five seasons as the team’s head coach earlier this month. Arteaga has been on UM’s staff for 21 years and has been the Hurricanes’ pitching coach since 2003, serving under DiMare and legendary coach Jim Morris. As UM’s pitching coach, he has taught several MLB draftees, including recent picks Carson Palmquist, Alex McFarlane and Jake Garland.
