Can a shoplifting by asportation be treated as a civil infraction by ... I believe you meant to cite G.L. Chapter 266, section 30A, which covers shoplifting of merchandise valued at less than $100. Asportation simply means the theft was allegedly accomplished by carrying away the property. I got caught shoplifting, no police was called, what's next? You do not need to hire an attorney now but will need to do so if you are cited or arrested for shoplifting, which sounds possible based on the previous incident of which the store has video.
