LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles hospital suspected of dumping hundreds of discharged patients at bus and train stations instead of homeless shelters has agreed to pay a $550,000 legal settlement. The agreement with Silver Lake Medical Center was announced Monday by Los Angeles county and city prosecutors. District Attorney Jackie Lacey says it's shameful for a hospital to be dumping patients on the street and not caring what happens to them. Lacey says investigators found more than 750 instances when discharge papers indicated patients were to be sent to shelters, but transportation records show they were dropped elsewhere. City Attorney Mike Feuer says the hospital has agreed to end the practice and the settlement will fund a homeless patient assistance program. The hospital didn't immediately reply to requests for comment. Read more on NewsOK.com
