MADRID (AP) — Spain's defense ministry says a Greek F-16 fighter jet has crashed into a hangar at a military base in southeastern Spain while it was participating in NATO maneuvers. The defense ministry could not immediately confirm reports in Spanish and Greek media that at least two people died and as many as 10 were injured. It said in a statement Monday that emergency crews tried to put out a fire caused by the crash. Television footage showed flames billowing and a plume of black smoke where the plane crashed at the Los Llanos base.
