A 2-year-old girl from Tampa is dead after she apparently drowned in a swimming pool in Pompano Beach on Thursday afternoon, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called to a home in the 1600 block of NE First Ave. about noon Thursday where family members were performing CPR on Sinai Cabrera, the Sheriff’s Office said. Sinai was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, where she was taken by paramedics. Sinai’s death is being investigating by BSO Homicide Unit detectives; no foul play is suspected, the Sheriff’s Office said. Drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death for children under the age of five, and Florida has one of the highest rates of child drowning in the United States, according to the Department of Health.
