The Gainesville Sun swept first-place honors in all photo categories on its way to claiming eight awards in the 2015 Florida Society of News Editors Contest. Staff photographer Erica Brough won first place for Spot News Photography, staff photographer Doug Finger won first for Feature Photography and Photo Story, and staff photographer Matt Stamey won first for Sports Photography. The Sun also won first place for Headline Writing, a collection of front page headlines by former News Editor Paul Jenkins. The awards will be presented at the FSNE summer convention in Lady Lake later this week, where Sun Executive Editor Douglas Ray will be installed as president of the state’s association for news editors. Sun staff writers Jeffrey Schweers and Arek Sarkissian took third place in Community Leadership for a report on sexual assaults at the University of Florida.
