Former Nordonia Hills Board of Education President Steven Bittel has filed an appeal of the 14-year sentence handed down in April by visiting Judge Richard D. Reinbold Jr. in Summit County Common Pleas Court for charges involving child pornography.Bittel, 53, pleaded guilty to 19 counts in all, including obscenity involving a minor, pandering, illegal use of a minor in nudity materials and obstructing official business.Reinbold gave Bittel 11 years on the child pornography charges and an additional three for brandishing a gun during a five-hour standoff that occurred with police following an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.Bittel was arrested in September after barricading himself in his Sagamore Hills home.Authorities first identified Bittel as a suspect in early August, when a task force agent discovered his home computer IP address was involved in a peer-to-peer file-sharing network involving child pornography.
