Former Danbury Pet Shop Owner Arrested Again

DANBURY — The former owner of a Federal Road pet shop performed an illegal procedure on a sick dog last fall, just months after his arrest on similar charges, authorities said. Richard Doyle, 56, of Mahopac, N.Y., “maliciously and intentionally tortured and caused wounds” to a St. Bernard puppy in an attempt to drain a cyst from the dog’s elbow, according to an arrest warrant served last week. Doyle, whose American Breeders pet shop was sold in January, was charged Thursday with animal cruelty and with practice of veterinarian medicine without a license. The latest warrant, signed by state Animal Control Officer Nancy Jarvis, says authorities were called to the store on Nov.
