Firefighters spend hours Saturday fighting a blaze that gutted parts of the vacant Ridgewood Retirement Center. The fire was reported about 5:30 p.m. at the facility on Interstate 10 near 11th Street. Eight engines and two aerial trucks responded to the fire that appeared to have begun in a wing near the back of the building. Two ambulances were on the scene as well as a precaution, but no injuries were reported as of 8 p.m. The cause of the blaze wasn't immediately identified Saturday night.
