ATHENS, Ala. (AP) — Federal regulators are about to perform a major inspection at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in north Alabama. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is preparing a third and final safety check in response to safety concerns at the plant, which is operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority and located near Athens. A spokesman for the agency tells the Decatur Daily (http://bit.ly/14RI4ar ) the inspection will take thousands of hours of work by inspectors. Browns Ferry is under special federal oversight because of problems discovered in 2010. Two initial inspections performed because of the malfunction revealed problems at the plant, including complaints about its safety culture.
