Jermaine McBean A beloved computer engineer who had never been in trouble a day in his life, Jermaine McBean was shot and killed in the apartment complex where he lived in Broward County, Florida, more than two years ago. To this day, the sheriff's office has kept the case in limbo and still not taken the case to a grand jury. It was just announced that the FBI is launching its own probe into McBean's killing: The disclosure came in a motion by the Broward County Sheriff's Office, which is seeking to put a hold on a federal lawsuit filed by McBean's family, who allege police covered up the circumstances of his death. "I'm glad the Justice Department is going to take a look at it because the local authorities have had two years to investigate this case," said David Schoen, a lawyer for the family, who requested a civil rights probe. As sick as it is, the officers who shot McBean actually received an award for their heroism in the shooting.
