SOUTH PORTLAND — Norma Spurling was only a year-and-a-half old when a plane piloted by her brother, 2nd Lt. George Hout, disappeared during World War II in the eastern Himalayas on a cargo mission between India and China on Sept. 24, 1944. Seventy one years later, Spurling has not given up hope that the remains of the brother she grew up hearing stories about may be recovered.
