Curt Schilling questions character of Kirby Puckett in Hall of Fame rant Kirby Puckett has had his dirty laundry aired in public (at least in the media) on multiple occasions, perhaps most notably in this 2003 Sports Illustrated piece, three years before his early death.
It is a part of the Puckett story that most Twins fans either honestly don’t know about or choose to forget about — or, at the most, gloss over when thinking about the baseball hero.
The less-than-perfect side of Puckett the human, in fact, gets buried so deep that it becomes somewhat shocking when someone brings up his name in a negative way. More

Spirit Airlines lenders have committed another $300 million in financing for the Dania Beach-based airline — money intended to fuel the discount carrier’s operations after it departs from bankruptcy court.
The airline “has secured a commitment from certain of its prepetition debtholders” to lend more money for working capital and “other corporate needs of the company” after it exits Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, management said in a filing late last week with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The commitments came as Spirit put the finishing touches on a cost-cutting program that has resulted in workforce cutbacks that affect several hundred pilots and 200 support workers.

A Golden opportunity just opened up with the Colorado School of Mines football program. Again.
For the second time in three years, the Orediggers are looking for a new head football coach. Pete Sterbick, who just completed his second season at the helm, resigned his position, the university announced Tuesday.
Special teams coach Yon Boone will serve as Mines’ interim coach, the school said in a news release, while continuing a search for Sterbick’s replacement.
Several outlets reported Tuesday that Sterbick will join Montana State, the reigning FCS runners-up, as offensive coordinator.
Sterbick posted a 22-4 record in two seasons as Mines coach and led the Orediggers to a school-record 14 wins and a berth in the Division II national championship game in December 2023.
“I have loved being at Mines for the past six years, this is truly an incredible place,” Sterbick said via a university news release.
MIAMI GARDENS — It’s no secret the Miami Dolphins have struggled in short-yardage situations offensively under coach Mike McDaniel the past three seasons.
It could lead the team to seek a big, physical running back this offseason, but it also has felt at times like the physical rushers on the Dolphins’ roster in 2024 weren’t getting opportunities in those scenarios.
