Parked under a simple overhang behind the Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare facility is a truck. Every day, the bodies of euthanized animals are placed in the truck’s bed, where they wait for a trip to the city’s landfill. In the truck this week there was only one thin dog, his lifeless body warmed by the midday sun, his red fur creating a bed for flies.
