To celebrate the release of the remake of ‘Endless Love’, starring Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde, we take a look at the history of star-crossed lovers in film, literature and myth, in an attempt to understand why we remain so intrigued by this type of story on screen. Definition of 'Star-crossed' according to the Oxford English Dictionary: 'thwarted by bad luck' Star-crossed lovers are two people (normally young) who experience love at first sight, but their relationship is threatened by forces outside of their control. The most famous ‘star-crossed lovers’ of all time are almost certainly Romeo and Juliet, from William Shakespeare’s play of the same name.
