SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco’s first Black female mayor, London Breed, conceded the race for mayor to Levi Strauss heir Daniel Lurie on Thursday, pledging a smooth transition as he takes over the job.
The Associated Press has not yet declared a winner because tens of thousand of ballots have not yet been counted and added to the ranked choice voting calculations.

Breed, who was raised by her grandmother in public housing, could not overcome deep voter discontent and was trailing Lurie, a philanthropist and anti-poverty nonprofit founder.
“At the end of the day, this job is bigger than any one person and what matters is that we keep moving this City forward,” Breed said, adding that she had called Lurie to congratulate him.
Donald Trump announced Thursday that Susie Wiles, who as his de facto campaign manager is credited with imposing a measure of discipline that helped him win on Tuesday, will serve as his chief of staff.
Wiles has earned a reputation as a smart, pragmatic, and effective campaign operative. For critics of Trump’s agenda—which includes deporting millions of immigrants, imposing tariffs likely to increase inflation, firing vast swaths of civil servants and using the Justice Department to prosecute critics—her appointment is bad news.
“Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected,” Trump said in a statement Thursday.
Republican Dave McCormick defeated incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Casey in Pennsylvania’s pivotal Senate race, the Associated Press projected Thursday evening, delivering the GOP yet another win after it regained control of the Senate.

McCormick’s projected victory marks a pivotal moment for the Republican Party, solidifying their gains in what was one of the nation’s most expensive Senate races and giving them a significant foothold in Pennsylvania, a state that has long been a key battleground in national elections.
But with an estimated 91,000 votes still being counted, Casey’s campaign said it would not concede yet.
President-elect Donald Trump has named Susie Wiles, the defacto manager of his victorious campaign, as his White House chief of staff, the first woman to hold the influential role.
Wiles is widely credited within and outside Trump’s inner circle for running what was, by far, his most disciplined and well-executed campaign, and was seen as the leading contender for the position.
Like everywhere in the country, Wisconsin's elections were turning into a regular shitshow, especially in the federal races. We watched in horror and disbelief when they announced the slugs and sleazeballs like Glenn Grothman, Tom Tiffany and Drunken Van Orden were winning. Even worse, it looked like the state's worst nightmare since Ron Johnson beat Russ Feingold was about to come a sickening reality.
Late into the night, with most of the precincts reporting in, Eric "Pornstache" Hovde was up by some 80,000 votes.
The video above of Mike Davis, who could be Trump’s attorney general, is from 11 months ago. He's consistently been a terrible person, and he still has some violent thoughts. His words would be disqualifying in any other world, but we're stuck in a bizarre timeline. The Republican lawyer and former Senate aide has previously called for a "three-week reign of terror," and he's continuing down that road.
Davis really wants the job as Trump's AG and is calling for revenge against Democrats, even though Trump somehow pulled a victory on Election Day.
“Here’s my current mood,” Davis wrote on Xitter.
