I am a convert to the Harrisburg route to New York. While about 45-60 minutes longer, one saves $30-$40 in tolls and has, for most of the route, the sense of taking a ride in the country. The Harrisburg area can be surprisingly congested at rush hour, and I have exited Route 15 several times onto the Pennsylvania Turnpike (east one exit, over the Susquehanna River) to mitigate any slowdown.
