Why “daily” and not “dayly”? Before a suffix starting in a consonant, the basic rule seems to be that -y remains; but there are some exceptions where it changes to -i-, one of which is the word asked about in the question: daily. Sadly, these exceptions seem completely random and must be learnt by heart. 01/17/2025 - 3:30 am | View Website
Weekly, Daily, Hourly "Hourly," "daily," "monthly," "weekly," and "yearly" suggest a consistent approach to creating adverbial forms of time measurements, but the form breaks down both in smaller time units ("secondly," "minutely"—perhaps because of the danger of confusion with other meanings of those words) and in larger ones ("decadely," "centurily," "millenniumly"—perhaps because until recently events ... 01/17/2025 - 12:02 am | View Website

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump once expressed concern with how low showerhead flow affected his “perfect” hair. Now back in the White House, he’s again taking aim at some high-efficiency household items — and that may mean higher water and electric bills in your home.
One of Trump’s several dozen first-day executive orders promises to “unleash American energy,” including a pledge to ease efficiency standards for household appliances and fixtures.
The standards are intended to make dishwashers, showerheads, refrigerators, laundry machines, toilets and the like use less energy and water.

Spirit Airlines lenders have committed another $300 million in financing for the Dania Beach-based airline — money intended to fuel the discount carrier’s operations after it departs from bankruptcy court.
The airline “has secured a commitment from certain of its prepetition debtholders” to lend more money for working capital and “other corporate needs of the company” after it exits Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, management said in a filing late last week with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The commitments came as Spirit put the finishing touches on a cost-cutting program that has resulted in workforce cutbacks that affect several hundred pilots and 200 support workers.

MIAMI GARDENS — It’s no secret the Miami Dolphins have struggled in short-yardage situations offensively under coach Mike McDaniel the past three seasons.
It could lead the team to seek a big, physical running back this offseason, but it also has felt at times like the physical rushers on the Dolphins’ roster in 2024 weren’t getting opportunities in those scenarios.
