Crystal Lake police issued 13 citations and 26 warnings to drivers who were caught using cellphones, according to a news release. The department participated in Illinois' Distracted Driving Awareness Week from April 21 through Saturday. The week aims to make motorists aware that fewer distractions while driving saves lives, according to the release. Crystal Lake police also issued informational handouts during the traffic stops that explain the various laws pertaining to distracted driving. This is an annual initiative that state and local law enforcement agencies across the state participate in. "Don’t let one text or call wreck it all: Drop it and drive," police said in the release.
