Macon woman, 67, shoots threatening teen

MACON, Ga. — Authorities in central Georgia say a 67-year-old woman shot and wounded a teenager.

The Telegraph newspaper in Macon reports Delores Gibson-Council told police she encountered a group of young people about 8:30 p.m. Saturday as she was driving down the street. She said she honked her horn and a 14-year-old boy came to her door and threatened her, and she shot him in the abdomen.

The teen was listed in critical but stable condition.

 

Georgia cop killer suspect arrested

MCRAE, Ga. — Authorities in south Georgia say a man accused of fatally shooting a police officer has been arrested.

The Telfair County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on its website that 24-year-old Royheem Delshawn Deeds was in custody. The website of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office in Florida says Deeds was booked into jail just before 3 a.m. Monday.

Man sentenced for killing pregnant teen

JEFFERSON, Ga. — A man will spend life behind bars without the possibility of parole for the slaying of his 16-year-old pregnant girlfriend.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office says Jonathan Michael Smith was sentenced Thursday in Cheyanne Nicole Hair’s death.

Smith was 34 years old when he was charged with murder in Hair’s death in December 2013. An autopsy determined she died from blunt force trauma.

 

100 firefighters put out SC blaze

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. — A fire at a South Carolina auto salvage yard that produced billows of smoke that could be seen 20 miles away is out after as many as 100 firefighters battled in 90-degree temperatures to extinguish it.

Berkeley County Emergency Medical Services Director Dan Barb tells local media outlets the fire broke out about 1:30 Sunday afternoon. It was extinguished seven hours later.

 

SC teacher DUI, crashes into cop car

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A South Carolina teacher is accused of driving under the influence after police say she crashed into a patrol car, injuring a police officer.

Citing court records, news outlets report 24-year-old Wendy Ellen Burnett was charged with felony DUI following the Saturday morning crash.

SC murder suspect's mom aids escape

COLUMBIA — Authorities say the mother of one of three suspects charged in a deadly Columbia shooting drove her son to North Carolina to help him escape police.

The State of Columbia reports Columbia police say 44-year-old Yvonne Antoinette Jamison was charged with misprision of a felony after authorities arrested her son, 22-year-old Jamal Hughey, in Wilson, North Carolina, last week on murder and other charges in Donquiese D. Green’s death.

Green was shot and killed on July 30.

 

Ryan Moore wins John Deere Classic for 5th PGA Tour title

 
SILVIS, Ill. — Ryan Moore won the John Deere Classic on Sunday for his fifth PGA Tour title, closing with 4-under-par 67 for a two-stroke victory over Ben Martin.
Moore, 33, finished at 22-under 262 at TPC Deere Run, playing the final 46 holes without a bogey and making only one in 72 holes. He won for the first time since successfully defending his CIMB Classic title in Malaysia in 2014.
Martin had three consecutive back-nine birdies in 68.

 

Rose captures gold medal in golf

RIO DE JANEIRO — Justin Rose delivered a gold-medal performance in golf worthy of a 112-year wait.
In a final round Sunday so tense that no one led by more than one shot, Rose won on the last hole with a 40-yard pitch to 3 feet for birdie and a 4-under 67, giving him a two-shot victory over Henrik Stenson to win the first gold medal in golf since 1904 in St. Louis.
And the 36-year-old from Great Britain, already a major champion, showed how much it meant.

 

Deputies seek missing woman, 64

Richmond County sheriff‘s deputies are searching for Anne Pearl Taylor, 64, of the 3000 block of Gibson Road.
A sheriff’s office bulletin said she suffers from dementia and walked away from her residence Saturday night. Anyone who knows her location should contact the sheriff’s dispatcher at (706) 821-1080.
No photo is available, but she is described as a black woman, 5-feet, 2-inches tall, and weighing about 200 pounds. She was wearing gold shorts and a black shirt when last seen about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

 

Kneeling in road, Monetta man killed

 
 
 
A 41-year old Monetta, S.C, man kneeling in the middle of U.S. Highway 1 was killed early Sunday when he was struck by a vehicle.
Andrea M. Gibson, of Old Lane, was pronounced dead at the scene on U.S. Highway 1 North near Engineer Road, according to a statement from Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, The accident happened about 4:45 a.m.
