Brown to require meal plans for sophomores

PROVIDENCE — Brown University will require all sophomores to enroll in a meal plan, an extension of last year's requirement that all freshmen do so. The university will also offer meals during spring break to all students on a meal plan, starting next spring. Car owners who owe back taxes are no longer told that their vehicle's registration will soon expire — and if it does expire, that exposes them to car impoundment if they're pulled over and insurance coverage lapses if they're involved in a crash. Traffic stop on Route 95 yields 94 lbs. of pot

WEST GREENWICH — Rhode Island State Police seized 94 pounds of marijuana and a set of nunchucks in a traffic stop on Route 95 North on Saturday.They arrested two New York men — Junjie Li, 28, of Brooklyn and Zhong Ming Kuang, 49, of Staten Island —  during the stop near Weaver Hill Road, according to a news release.Both men were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of more than five kilograms of marijuana. R.I. House passes animal-abuse registry

Anyone convicted of of an animal-abuse crime would be required to send their name, address, birthday and head-shot photo to the attorney general to post online for at least 15 years, under a bill that passed the Rhode Island House 55 to 16 Thursday. While on the registry, offenders would be prohibited from possessing an animal. It also prohibits pet stores or shelters from selling to anyone on the registry, with a fine of $1,000 to anyone who does.

Fatal crash in West Warwick Saturday night

WEST WARWICK — Four adults were transported to Rhode Island Hospital and two juveniles were taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital following a crash involving two vehicles on Providence Street around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.
