Voters will pick president, decades of debt

For residents in Amarillo, Tuesday is about a lot more than just who will be the next president.
Voters here will be deciding upon decades of debt that will long outlive a four- or eight-year presidential administration.
For some, Tuesday will be about a city’s wants versus needs.
For others, the day will be about what type of city they want to leave for their children.
And for many, it will be about whether or not they feel they can trust current city leaders with a $340 million check.

Amarillo, Ft. Worth to hold Ronald McDonald House fundraisers

All four of Lyndie Higdon’s children have been diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Dysautonomia, a genetic disorder affecting connective tissue as well as the central nervous system.
While the disease affects each person differently, she’s been told by doctors that all of her children have a higher risk of heart and neurological conditions.
“We ended up at Cook Children’s Hospital in Ft. Worth for my son to have testing done, and we were blessed to get into the Ronald McDonald House and get to stay,” Higdon said.

Prime Chop House & Grill expects to move into Perry Williams’ massive southwest Amarillo project by summer or early fall 2017.
Amarillo currently lacks a Chicago or New York-style elegant steakhouse, according to Adam Blanchard, a representative of Williams Group’s W Real Estate.

Lord, hear our prayers

In the sanctuary arena of Life Cowboy Church this week, congregants gathered to pray for the United States and the rapidly approaching presidential election.
Robert Aja removed his cowboy hat, clutched his leather-tooled Bible in his arms and bowed his head.
His wife, Judy, dabbed her eyes with a tissue and pored over the open Bible in her lap.
Lou Ann Jones, wife of Pastor Ty Jones, led the gathering to be “(God’s) agenda of prayer.” The nation was lifted up to heaven and the congregants were reminded of God’s power over politics.
