Work has already begun to bring six large organic food gardens to as many school buildings in Oak Park.One of the gardens has been built at Oak Park Preparatory Academy, the middle school, and another is expected to be finished this week at Oak Park Freshman Institute, schools officials said.

Two local Autism Society affiliates - Autism Society Oakland County and Autism Society-Macomb/St. Clair - are merging to become the Autism Society-Greater Macomb/Oakland. The union will benefit individuals with autism and their families in all three counties by leveraging Autism Society Macomb/St.

Community Sharing is sponsoring a "Back-to-School" clothing drive for children of qualified families within the Huron Valley School District. In 2017, the nonprofit was able to outfit 124 children. This summer, 90 high school females from 13 states, including Farmington Hills resident Joy Mosley, are participating in the Western Golf Association's seventh annual Caddie Academy in Chicago.This program offers participants, who are from economically under-resourced backgrounds, a chance to experience the benefits of being a golf caddie.

The Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library is hosting the Summer Used Book and Media Sale July 25-28 and July 30.The sale is at the library building at 500 Olde Towne Road in downtown Rochester on the second floor. There will be 35,000-40,000 hardcover and paperback books in many categories.

Fox Run senior living community in Novi celebrated its 15th anniversary last month.To mark the occasion, the retirement community came together on Thursday, June 28 for a Motown-themed outdoor party under the big tent on Fox Run's campus. National Coney Island restaurant was on-site and served about 1,300 hot dogs.

OUR Credit Union, headquartered in Royal Oak, hosted its Charitable Foundation Golf Outing at Cracklewood Golf Course in Macomb, which raised nearly $8,000. From July 24 through Aug. 7, individuals can participate in 14 Days of Miracles to support Beaumont Children's Hospital in Royal Oak - part of Children's Miracle Network.Children's Miracle Network Hospitals help kids of various ages and backgrounds overcome disease, injury and illness. Last year, through Beaumont Children's, Children's Miracle Network's programs supported more than 200,000 children in Southeast Michigan.

On Thursday, July 19, teen musicians will perform at Stars in the Park Concert Series at Heritage Park, 24915 Farmington Road in Farmington Hills. Farmington Hills features this free high school concert in conjunction with Farmington School of Rock.Eric Cojocari, general manager of Farmington School of Rock, said, "We believe performing is the most fun and effective way to learn an instrument, so we get the kids on stage as quickly as possible.

Andrew Dimmer of Clarkston was one of 20 students nationwide awarded the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship.This scholarship program, which just completed its eighth year, rewards students who embody the vision and values personified by President Ronald Reagan, including leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship.
