Quincy resident spends spare time building small-scale lighthouses

The lighthouse in front of Carl Hosea’s home has been a something of a beacon for people driving on Quincy Shore Drive for 15 years. “A lot of people use this lighthouse for directions: ‘Go down until you see the lighthouse’ or ‘Take the next right after the lighthouse,' ” Hosea said. He recently replaced the original lighthouse, which he built in his basement 15 years ago, with a newer version he crafted in his garage.

Morning Jolt: White supremacist executed

White supremacist Joseph Paul Franklin was executed this morning after several delays. Franklin was on death row in Missouri since 1977 after killing 22 people in an attempt to start a race war. His death this morning was scheduled for shortly after midnight but didn't happen until 6:07 a.m. CST because of last-minute court appeals. In the end, he was denied his requests and died without giving a final statement.  

 

 

Quincy fire extinguishes one-alarm Hillside Drive blaze

Quincy Fire crews extinguished a one-alarm fire late Tuesday night that started on the exterior side of a two-story house, authorities said.Nobody was injured in the blaze that broke out at the home on Hillside Drive around 12:33 a.m., Deputy Fire Chief Gary Smith said.
