City Council OKs purchase of the Die Cast property

The Woodstock City Council approved the purchase of the Die Cast/Woodstock station site Tuesday evening. 

The board motioned for approval of an ordinance authorizing a taxable general obligation loan to finance the purchase of the Die Cast/Woodstock Station property, authorizing the purchase of real estate being about 8.12 acres at the Die Cast/Woodstock Station. 

Council member Jim Prindiville began the discussion by expressing his opinion to not buy the site.

 

Hundreds of solar projects online, in development in McHenry County amid funding fears

More than 7,000 small-scale and community solar projects either are online or in development across the state of Illinois, which would generate 490 megawatts of power, according to data from the Illinois Power Agency.

Of these projects, about 300 would be located within McHenry County.

The McHenry County municipalities with the most solar projects are Crystal Lake, which has 66 projects capable of generating more than 1,300 kilowatts of power; Algonquin, which has 45 projects capable of generating about 2,300 kilowatts;

 

Cary's new Metra station, wastewater treatment plant, win awards

Cary’s new Metra station recently was named one of the Projects of the Year by the American Public Works Association’s Fox Valley Branch.

Also given this award was the removal of biological phosphorus and the ultraviolet disinfection system at the village’s wastewater treatment plant.

According to the APWA’s website, the Project of the Year award was created to “promote excellence in the management and administration of public works projects” by recognizing the alliance between the managing agency, the consul

 

Suspect in Montgomery standoff was wanted in Michigan homicide

UPDATED AT 10:45 A.M. TUESDAY, JAN. 21

MONTGOMERY – A suspect has been taken into custody following a standoff Tueday, Jan. 21, on the west side of Montgomery, Kane County Undersheriff Pat Gengler has confirmed.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office reported they were asked to assist Montgomery Police and the U.S. Marshals Service after a report of a sighting of a subject, Scott K.

 

At 90, Alaska Native woman will be 1st counted in U.S. Census

TOKSOOK BAY, Alaska – Lizzie Chimiugak has lived for 90 years in the windswept western wilds of Alaska, born to a nomadic family who lived in mud homes and followed where the good hunting and fishing led.

Her home now is an outpost on the Bering Sea, Toksook Bay, and she is about to become the first person counted in the U.S.

 

Financial successes, calls for reform highlighted in McHenry County State of the County address

McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks highlighted the county’s financial accomplishments in 2019 during his third State of the County address Tuesday, but said reform efforts should start with a bang in 2020.

Such reform efforts could include the elimination of mileage and health insurance benefits for McHenry County Board members, another reduction to the size of the County Board and the possibility of nonpartisan elections for County Board members.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell abruptly eased his restrictive proposed rules for President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial , backing off the condensed two-day schedule to add a third for opening arguments after protests from senators, including Republicans.

The trial quickly burst into a partisan fight at the Capitol as the president's lawyers opened arguments Tuesday in support of McConnell's plan.

 

358 ticketed, arrested in 'Move Over' law enforcement campaign in Illinois, ISP says

Springfield– Illinois State Police on Tuesday said troopers ticketed 281 people for Move Over law violations and arrested 77 more during a special enforcement operation in memory of ISP Trooper Christopher Lambert, who was killed in the line of duty on Jan. 12, 2019.

Lambert was killed when his squad car was struck while he was at a three-vehicle traffic crash in the left lane on Interstate 294 near Willow Road in Northbrook.
