Amy Klobuchar is ending her presidential bid, will endorse Joe Biden

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar ended her Democratic presidential campaign on Monday and plans to endorse rival Joe Biden in an effort to unify moderate voters behind the former vice president's White House bid.

She is flying to Dallas and is set to join Biden at his rally Monday night.

Klobuchar outlasted several better-known and better-funded Democrats, thanks to a better-than-expected third-place finish in in New Hampshire.

Jack Welch, the GE chief who became a superstar, has died

BOSTON (AP) — Jack Welch, who transformed General Electric Co. into a highly profitable multinational conglomerate and parlayed his legendary business acumen into a retirement career as a corporate leadership guru, has died. He was 84.

His death was confirmed Monday by GE. The cause of death was renal failure, his wife Suzy told The New York Times.

Welch became one of the nation's most well-known and highly regarded corporate leaders during his two decades as GE's chairman and chief executive, from 1981 to 2001.

 

Virus deaths top 3,000 as warnings sound for global economy

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The number of new virus infections rose worldwide along with fears of a weakening global economy, even as cases in China dropped to their lowest level in six weeks on Monday and hundreds of patients at the outbreak’s epicenter were released from hospitals.

The number of deaths worldwide from COVID-19 topped 3,000 with expanding clusters of infections in South Korea, Italy and Iran. The virus was reshaping routines around Europe and across the Atlantic in the United States.

 

Biden warmly welcomed in Selma as Dems court black voters

Some states make it harder for college students to vote

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Vanderbilt University student Will Newell wishes it was easier for college students like him to cast ballots in Tennessee, one of 14 states holding a presidential primary on Super Tuesday.

The campus has no locations for early voting, so students must visit an off-campus polling location to cast a ballot on Election Day. Newell drives but worries that many students who don’t have their own transportation won’t make it to a precinct.
