Man found dead in Algonquin

A dead man was discovered by members of the Algonquin Police Department inside a vehicle parked in the area of 2700 W. Algonquin Road on Thursday.

The discovery of the deceased male was the result of officers assisting in the search for a missing person from a nearby community, police said.

An investigation into the subject’s death is being conducted, however, police said foul play is not suspected at this time.

Taking on a musical rarely performed in high schools, Crystal Lake South looks to entice crowds to “Catch Me If You Can.”

The musical is based on the 2002 film of the same name featuring Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Stephen Spielberg.

 

Road closed in Huntley because of gas main leak

Eastbound Kreutzer Road at Rt. 47 in Huntley was closed on Thursday because of a gas main leak.

Huntley Deputy Police Chief Michael Klunk said contractors working in the area heard a leak, and Nicor was called out to fix it.

Nicor had to dig deeper to cap it off, Klunk said, and as an abundance of caution the roadway was shut down.

Klunk said at 4:30 p.m.

Declining enrollment at Huntley School District 158 over the past several years will lead to a reduction in teaching staff in the 2020-21 academic years, according to a letter sent to District 158 families Feb. 12.

Since the 2015-16 school year, District 158 enrollment has dropped from 9,631 to 9,203.

 

Investigation news leads to McHenry County Board fallout for Franks

McHenry County Board members and members of the public took County Board Chairman Jack Franks to task Tuesday over a recently disclosed Illinois State Police investigation into alleged misconduct.

House committee advances bills adding e-cigarettes, sexting risks to school curriculum

SPRINGFIELD – Two bills that would add the risks of e-cigarette use and sexting to public school curriculum will head to the full Illinois House of Representatives after unanimously passing a committee Wednesday.

The House education curriculum committee heard testimony about House Bills 4007 and 3928, which would require public schools to teach the dangers of sexting and electronic cigarettes, respectively, in health education classes.

Illinois Department of Labor reviewing wage complaints about Bowes In Home Care

The Illinois Department of Labor is currently reviewing 22 wage complaints about Bowes In Home Care, a Medicare-certified home health agency in Crystal Lake, an agency spokesperson said Thursday.

Mike Matulis, spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Labor, said the complaints, regarding unpaid wages, are from workers who say they are owed money from the company.

They were all filed earlier this month, he said.
