USPBL game suspended between Beavers and Diamond Hoppers

UTICA >> Skylar Mercado went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers, and Eastside Diamond Hoppers' Trey Bridis hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning with two outs to tie the score at 5-5 as the game was suspended after nine complete innings of play on Wednesday night at Jimmy John's Field.

Extra police presence for fireworks makes 'dramatic' difference, Warren mayor says

A beefed-up Warren police response team for Fourth of July fireworks complaints on Wednesday night and Thursday morning issued five times the number of tickets than the previous year, city officials said.The team handed out 35 tickets this year, compared to seven violations dispersed in 2017, while calls of fireworks complaints rose from 130 in 2017 to 155 this year, according to preliminary numbers provided by Warren officials.

 

CV tele-town hall reveals parent security concerns

A top security measure that families want to see taken in schools is more outside entry barriers, according to a recent tele-town hall hosted by Chippewa Valley Schools. The Clinton Township-based district hosted a tele-town hall on June 19 to obtain public input on school safety. District families that had their phone numbers on file with Chippewa Valley Schools received a phone call asking them to participate.

Berkley library had a 'Fifty Shades' censor

BERKLEY (AP) - A suburban Detroit library has decried an unidentified censor who concealed DVDs of movies from the racy "Fifty Shade" series.The Berkley library is now openly displaying the R-rated movies, accompanied by a sign that says hiding movies "is not how libraries work."Librarian Lauren Arnsman tells the Detroit Free Press that the three movies had mysteriously disappeared since last year, forcing the library to spend more than $100 to replace them.

Oakland County man charged with taking photos of women changing in Sterling Heights dressing room

A 27-year-old Oakland County man is facing with two felonies after he was charged with secretly photographing two women as they changed clothes inside a dressing room at a Sterling Heights store, according to police.Brandon Devon Woods of Southfield was recently arraigned in 41A District Court on two counts of capturing an image of an unclothed person, Sterling Heights police said in a news release.
