Armada Township conducts simulated drill

The Armada Township Fire Department conducted real-time drill/exercise Tuesday at the Advantage Living Center on Main Street.The exercise included fire trucks, police cars and ambulances. It simulated victims trapped inside a burning building.

Defense contractor to build $40.1 million headquarters in Shelby Twp.

A Madrid, Spain defense contractor will invest $40.1 million to open a North American headquarters and new production facility in Shelby Township for its military vehicle transmission operations, according to a state economic corporation.SAPA Transmission plans to break ground in the fall with a scheduled 2020 opening for the facility on the 11000 block of Investment Drive, in the area of 24 Mile Road and Shelby Parkway.

 

Civilian fire academy returns in Sterling Heights

Sterling Heights residents can apply to learn vehicle extrications, use of fire hoses and other emergency actions when the city's civilian fire academy returns in September."We are excited to bring back the Civilian Fire Academy, which has not been held since 2008," Fire Chief Chris Martin said in a news release.

 

Bruce Township clerk job change meeting abruptly scrubbed

A special meeting set for 7 p.m. Wednesday for Bruce Township officials to consider a shift in administrative roles was abruptly cancelled Tuesday afternoon.The meeting agenda called for four items to be considered under "new business," including the resignation of Clerk Susan Brockmann, acceptance of a contract with a township manager, a union letter of understanding and appointment of the township clerk to fill an unexpired term.

Fraser parade, picnic and Lions Carnival wrap up in soggy conditions

The annual Fraser Lions Carnival and city celebration wrapped up with wet weather last weekend. Highlights Sunday included the annual city parade, which started at the high school and made its way along Garfield Road to 14 Mile Road. The midway went on all weekend at Steffens Park, the annual city picnic was also held in the park Sunday and the festivities wrapped up with the fireworks display Sunday night.
