Sims Foundation donates at least $50K to Community Foundation

The J. Marion Sims Foundation on Monday announced  plans to donate $50,000 to the Lancaster County Community Foundation and match up to $25,000 in additional donations.
The money will be used in a broad variety of community-building efforts.
“We applaud the generosity of the J. Marion Sims Foundation,” said Chip Cox, chair of the Lancaster County Community Foundation. “We have been studying the data, looking at indicators of community health, and we believe we can make a bigger impact together.”

 

IL 14-year-old dies after bike hits tree

A 14-year-old Indian Land resident has died after he was seriously injured when his bicycle hit a tree near the Carolina Thread Trail on Nov. 19.
Lancaster County Coroner Karla Deese identified the victim as Garrett Howison.

 

USCL is listed as top 2-year college in state

A national school-ranking organization has named USC Lancaster the top two-year college in the Palmetto State, and No. 4 in the country.
Niche.com, a Pittsburgh-based company that analyzes schools nationally, gives USCL a B-plus grade in its 2018 best community colleges ranking.
“I am honored, but not surprised, that USC Lancaster would be named the top two-year campus in South Carolina,” said Dr. Walt Collins, dean of USCL. “This is a credit to our devoted and dedicated faculty and staff who work hard toward the success of our students.”
