Fire damages AJ Middle School

Fire crews scrambled to Andrew Jackson Middle School about 9:30 Thursday night, responding to a fire that started in a janitor's closet. Black smoke was rolling through the building when firefighters arrived.

The fire was extinguished, but there is extensive smoke damage in the building. School has been canceled for Friday.

 

Thunderstorm warning issued for southeastern Lancaster County

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the southeastern portion of Lancaster County until 4:45 p.m. Thursday, March 1.
At 3:42 p.m., National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated that showers with damaging winds in excess of 60 mph were reported over Arcadia Lakes in northern Richland County and moving east/northeast toward Lancaster at an estimated 30 mph.
Residents are urged to report damaging winds or flooding to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 283-4136.

 

Authorities called to High Point Circle

Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office personnel and SLED agents have blocked off High Point Circle off S.C. 200 and Airport Road to investigate a possible crime scene.
“We received information this morning that a crime may have been committed at this location, so we obtained warrants and are looking into it,” said sheriff’s office spokesman Doug Barfield.
