Pedestrian struck on U.S. 97

A Redmond man was struck by a car Tuesday morning while he attempted to cross U. S. Highway 97 south of Redmond, according to Oregon State Police.Jason W. Brown, 28, was attempting to cross the highway near Southwest Tomahawk Avenue, about three miles south of Redmond, when he was hit at around 9:50 a.m. by a Toyota Camry driven by Chad M. Schmitt, 35, of Redmond. In a news release, the OSP said Brown was crossing east to west.

 

Bend man injured, dog dead in crash

A Bend man was injured and had to be extricated from his vehicle after crashing his car along the Old Bend-Redmond Highway Monday evening, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said.Nathan Scott Burnhardt, 35, was issued a criminal citation for driving under the influence of intoxicants Monday after he crashed his 1987 Black Dodge Raider. While traveling south on the highway, Burnhardt’s car crossed the lane of travel and drifted onto the northbound shoulder of the highway where it rolled several times before coming to rest on its side.

 

Free appliance recycling Aug. 17

Residents will be able to recycle old and worn-out appliances for free Aug. 17 at the Knott Landfill.The landfill will be open from 7 a. m. to 4:30 p. m., and will accept stoves, ovens, washers, air conditioners, dishwashers, dryers, water heaters, furnaces and heat pumps.

 

Making space for music

Norman Smith relocates windows while clearing out a lot at Pakit Liquidators in Bend on Tuesday. Matt Korish of Pakit is collaborating with organizers of the Bend Roots Revival music festival to clear space for this year’s event. Bend Roots founder Mark Ransom gave a quick tour of the facility Tuesday, locating potential areas of the property for music stages.

 

River shuttle service won’t run this weekend

Cascades East Transit’s Ride the River service will not operate Saturday and Sunday due to the Deschutes Dash Weekend Sports Festival.The sports festival, which is being held in Riverbend Park, will cause road closures on the river bus service route.— Bulletin staff report

Cigarette butts spark house fire

The Bend Fire Department says cigarette butts sparked a blaze that destroyed a home north of Cooley Road between U. S. Highway 20 and U. S. Highway 97 early Monday morning.Firefighters from Bend and Redmond, as well as deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the home.

Balloon man faces FAA fine; Feds say Bend man who flew lawn chair was unauthorized, reckless

A Bend man famous for taking his lawn chair to the skies faces a fine from the Federal Aviation Administration for his flight last summer.The FAA is fining 53-year-old Kent Couch $4,500 for his July 14, 2012, flight from Bend to a field near Post, Elizabeth Cory, a spokeswoman with the agency, confirmed Monday.
