Buehler moves into District 54

The BulletinDr. Knute Buehler, who expressed interest in running for state House District 54, has moved into the district to ensure he's eligible to run in the 2014 election, according to a spokeswoman.Buehler, a Bend city resident for 16 years, and his wife, Patricia, are renting a condominium inside the district, said his spokeswoman Elisabeth Thomas. She said the couple moved about a week ago from their home just outside the district.

 

Crawley joins U.S. Senate race

A Portland attorney is the sixth person to announce he’ll run as a Republican for the U. S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore.Tim Crawley, 31, grew up in Oregon and has degrees from Williams College in Massachusetts and the University of California-Hastings College of Law.

 

OSP releases name of man arrested following La Pine standoff

The Oregon State Police today identified Jacob James Bowling as the man arrested in La Pine Monday night following a six-hour standoff.Bowling, 28, was being held today without bail at the Deschutes County jail on outstanding out-of-county warrants and suspicion of reckless driving, according to the jail’s website.

‘Les Misérables’ auditions

Shore Thing Productions is scheduling auditions for the musical “Les Misérables" from 6 to 10 p. m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at Pinckney Center for the Arts at Central Oregon Community College, 2600 N. W. College Way, Bend.“Les Misérables" will be presented by The Tower Theatre Foundation as part of its Marquee Series, Sept. 14-20, 2014. Tickets go on sale to the general public Nov.

 

Repair cafe fixes broken goods

The Environmental Center’s Rethink Waste Project is sponsoring Central Oregon’s first Repair Cafe from 6 to 9 p. m. Thursday at Pakit Liquidators, 903 S. E. Armour, Bend.The free event is meant to connect people with broken items with others with the skills or tools necessary to fix them.

 

Root Down set for Nov. 16

Central Oregon Locavore’s Root Down Community Supper will be served family-style 6 to 9 p. m. Nov. 16 in its community room by the student chefs from the Cascade Culinary Institute Culinary Club. It is one of four seasonal community suppers to connect local farmers with the community.Local vegetables, dairy and chicken are provided by Central Oregon farmers and can be washed down with Phat Matt’s beer, local wine and Oregon Spirit Distillers cocktails. Baked goods are provided by AKulinary Innovations and baked bakery.

 

DUII charge in injury crash

A Bend man involved in a crash between Redmond and Madras on Friday night is facing a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants, according to Oregon State Police. Damon Smith, 45, from Bend, was allegedly driving south in the northbound lane of U. S. Highway 97 at around 9:35 p. m., approximately 17 miles south of Madras.
