Ga. senate approves pipeline moratorium

ATLANTA – The Senate passed its version of a bill Tuesday to halt construction of a petroleum pipeline across East Georgia but added a last-minute amendment to allow the company to apply for but not be issued environmental permits during a 13-month moratorium.
The bill is aimed at blocking efforts by Texas-based Kinder Morgan to construct the planned Palmetto Pipeline across more than 200 miles stretching from the South Carolina border to the Florida one, crossing five rivers and hundreds of parcels of private property. Many landowners object, as well as environmental groups.

 

Georgia lawmaker plans new push for medical marijuana bill

ATLANTA — A Georgia lawmaker hoping to expand the number of people eligible for medical marijuana plans another push after his original proposal stalled in the Senate.Republican Rep. Allen Peake of Macon says he plans to propose changes to an unrelated bill scheduled for a committee hearing on Tuesday.

 

Voters in March 29 special elections must request separate absentee ballots

Voters wanting to cast absentee ballots in the March 29 special election to fill the unexpired terms of Chatham County Sheriff and 162nd District state House Representative must file separate requests for each race.
According to a notice from the Chatham County Board of Registrars, both races are considered “special elections,” and therefore require separate ballots.
