Staff at Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen St., called police about 9 a.m. to let them know a teacher was being detained for carrying a concealed weapon, the release said. The police department, working with the administration of the Newtown Public Schools, immediately began an investigation and determined that Adams violated state law and school policy forbidding the possession of a firearm on school property. “This close working relationship between the school system and law enforcement personnel is essential in resolving incidents of this nature,” Viadero wrote.
