The controversial Confederate statue just outside the Alachua County Administration Building has been spray-painted. The statue has been the target of much ire in recent weeks, with many residents weighing in on whether it should remain in its place of honor on the county's property or be moved. Some see the statue, which was placed on the county grounds in 1904 in front of what was then the county courthouse, as a part of history that merely pays tribute to soldiers' willingness to give their lives for their families and a cause.
