By Jim Willis For The OklahomanBERLIN — In the wake of the Friday night terrorist attacks in Paris, Germany's asylum plan for Syrian refugees sounds compassionate to many, dangerous to others and insane to still others. Nevertheless, the West is meeting the Muslim world on the streets of Berlin and all across Germany. Not surprisingly, many Germans are worried about this policy, others are looking over their shoulder more since the Paris attacks, while others applaud Chancellor Angela Merkel's open-heart policy. “Welcome to the new Middle East,” said a native Palestinian engineer, now driving a taxi in Berlin. To the Syrian refugees, though, the chancellor is affectionately known as “Mama Merkel.” Like rescued orphans, they are looking for a forever home in her Germany.
