IOWA CITY — The Community Foundation of Johnson County, which controls $26.8 million in assets, has named a new executive director.Shelly Maharry began at the foundation last week, according to a media release. Maharry previously served as an associate director for the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine.“Shelly’s substantial experience in community foundation work, combined with her dedication to the causes we support, make her the right executive director to help CFJC grow our endowment and our impact in our second decade of service to our community,” said Sarah Maiers, the foundations board president, in the release.The foundation has given out more than $11.8 million to not-for-profits that serve the community in areas such as health and human services, the arts, and culture and humanities, among others.“I have a sincere passion for assisting donors find unique and meaningful ways to support the communities and causes they love, both now and for generations to come,” Maharry said in the release.Maharry has worked for University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as director of patient relations and service excellence initiatives.
