TORONTO (AP) — Dane Myers hit a three-run homer and finished with a career-high five RBIs, Griffin Conine had three hits and an RBI and the Miami Marlins claimed a series against Toronto for the first time since 2009 with an 8-1 victory over the Blue Jays on Saturday.
Miami’s Jesús Sánchez scored three runs for the second straight game.
Bench coach Luis Urueta managed the Marlins in the next-to-last game of the season after manager Skip Schumaker returned home to California because of a family medical issue.
“I know he was watching,” said Urueta, who will also handle Sunday’s season finale.
Myers was activated off the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
MIAMI GARDENS — The South Florida Sun Sentinel’s Miami Dolphins writers are picking out a pair of prop bets each week in the 2024 season.
Dolphins columnist Chris Perkins and Dolphins reporter David Furones, neither of whom condone gambling, will make predictions on player props they believe will occur for every Dolphins matchup.
Each writer will offer their “Best Bet,” a near 50-50 proposition they believe will occur, and a “Longshot,” which has to be given betting odds of at least +300, or 3-to-1 probability.
Odds are according to the Hard Rock Bet app.
MIAMI GARDENS — Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson said Saturday he hopes to get another chance to start for the Dolphins, and that he’s still somewhat restricted by his rib injury.
Thompson (13 of 19, 107 yards, 82.6 passer rating) said his performance in the 24-3 loss at Seattle wasn’t good.
The Dolphins said Tyler “Snoop” Huntley, who attended Hallandale High School, will start Monday’s game against Tennessee and Tim Boyle will serve as backup.
