Rumors are circulating that tech giant Apple could be making a cost-cutting version of the Apple Vision Pro. The Vision Pro is the tech giant’s headset that went on sale at the start of this year. It integrates digital media with users’ real surroundings. However, the company was careful to not market it as virtual or augmented reality. Wearable tech like this has boomed in recent years, but Apple’s offering is definitely on the pricier side.

The bug bounty platform for blockchain, Immunefi, has published a report on crypto losses in Q3 of 2024, with just over $412 million reported to have been lost from the Web3 ecosystem. In the third quarter, the company writes that $409,906,947 was lost to hacks across 31 specific incidents and the remaining $3,087,552 was due to fraud in three incidents. While that sounds like a staggering number, the total loss of Q3 2024 is actually a 40% decrease from what was seen in Q3 of 2023. The number of individual successful attacks is also said to have “decreased by 54% from 75 in Q3 2023 to 34 in Q3 2024.” The report says “There is nearly $90 billion in capital locked across web3 protocols as of September 2024.” The predominant cause of losses was said to be from hacks, accounting for 99.25% of losses.

The AI hosting platform Hugging Face surpassed one million AI models on Thursday (September 26), showing exponential interest in the field of machine learning. Launched in 2016 as a chatbot app, Hugging Face then turned its attention to becoming an open-source hub for AI models in 2020. The community-focused model provides AI and ML researchers with access to curated datasets, machine learning models, and AI-powered demo apps. On its website, the company describes itself as being the “platform where the machine learning community collaborates on models, datasets, and applications.” After reaching the milestone, the Co-founder and CEO Clement Delangue took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news and to cheer those involved. Google Gemini is continuing its AI expansion with the roll out of contextual smart email replies this week. Gemini is Google’s own AI chatbot and was created to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT. After launching last year, the company has embedded the assistant throughout its products. It is now built in to its phones and pops up when using a simple Google search. Google has this week (September 26) shared new additions to its AI note-taking and research assistant NotebookLM, including shareable AI-generated audio discussions and YouTube summaries. While NotebookLM was initially launched as a project at the I/O developer conference in 2023, the search giant is now expanding its use cases and reach. In a news release published on Thursday, the author shares the details: “You can now add public YouTube URLs and audio files to your notebook for an even deeper understanding of your sources.” They write that early testing has outlined three ways the new source type in YouTube and audio files can be used.
