A July 11 letter writes of “schools' main purpose” being the education of students. It's a sound observation, difficult to argue against. However, the letter dismisses the importance of maintenance workers (and perhaps other non-teachers in the school system) as not being “integral to our children's education.” He says that farming out these services “will eventually get sorted out,” noting $6 million being freed up to (theoretically) be applied to educating.
