EVERGREEN — A homeowner is facing charges after shooting two bear cubs rummaging through his trash. One cub was killed instantly in Tuesday morning's shooting in Evergreen in the foothills near Denver. The other was wounded and later euthanized. The mother black bear ran across the street and into a tree. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dionne Waugh says the man first fired rubber rounds from his shotgun to try to scare the bears away but then fired one live round to protect his dog after it ran outside.
