Police, friends search for missing 30-year-old who disappeared under ‘suspicious circumstances’

Hundreds of volunteers on Saturday searched Salt Lake City for a missing 30-year-old man.
Swenson was last seen Tuesday afternoon in American Fork. The car he was driving was found unoccupied on Wednesday morning at Park View Elementary, 970 Emery Street (1150 West), in Salt Lake City, according to American Fork police Sgt.

Kids at the Lied Boys and Girls Club in Salt Lake City each received a bike helmet donated by UnitedHealthcare Friday, a gift to help encourage them and their families to participate in Tour of Utah kids’ events.
UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team members helped fit the helmets to each child, and gave lessons in helmet and bike safety and tips for the best stretches and exercises to do before an event.

 

One driver identified after double-fatality crash near the University of Utah

A man involved in a fiery two-car crash near the University of Utah was identified Saturday.
Jeoffry Dahl, 77, is one of two drivers who died in Friday’s crash, according to Salt Lake City police.
A third person, a 77-year-old female passenger in Dahl’s vehicle, was in critical condition as of Friday evening.
Dahl, driving an SUV west on 500 South, rear-ended a smaller car, propelling it from 1300 East two blocks to 1100 East, Salt Lake City police Lt. Robin Heiden said.

Ted Cruz in Utah to rally support for Chris Herrod’s run for Chaffetz’s congressional seat

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz and former state Rep. Chris Herrod will team up in Lehi on Saturday for an afternoon campaign rally.
Herrod is running for the 3rd Congressional District seat vacated by Jason Chaffetz, which includes Carbon, Emery, Grand, San Juan, Salt Lake, Utah and Wasatch counties.
The rally is set for 2:30 p.m. at 4205 Chapel Ridge Road, in Lehi.

 

Slain southern Utah woman was ‘devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend,’ family says

A southern Utah woman beaten to death on an Alaskan cruise ship during an apparent dispute with her husband was kind and optimistic, her family wrote in a statement released late Friday night.
Kristy Manzanarez, 39, of Santa Clara, was reportedly celebrating her wedding anniversary with her husband when she was found murdered in her cabin on Tuesday.

3-year-old hit by a car crossing the street in Eagle Mountain

A 3-year-old girl is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Eagle Mountain on Friday evening.
The girl had been at the park across the street from her home on Wycliffe Way, and her mother called for her to come home about 6:25 p.m., according to Utah County sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon. The child didn’t cross as fast as the woman thought she would, according to Cannon, and as the girl crossed, a car struck her.

 

Two girls struck by lightning in Utah, police say

Two girls are in the hospital after lightning struck them in Beaver County on Friday morning.
The two girls, 8 and 16, were walking with their dog when lightning struck them abut 10:45 a.m., according to a news release from the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office.
Their families had been camping near Big Flat in the Beaver Mountains for a family reunion, the release stated. Their dog returned to camp and led family members to the girls, who were found unconscious.
