The Bloomfield Hills High School Model United Nations Team was just named the number one model UN team in Michigan for public schools and one of the top 150 teams in all of North America."This was another very strong year for our students," said Matt MacLeod, Bloomfield Hills high school social studies teacher.

The Lake Fenton Chapter of Boat 4 Vets offers free boat rides for all veterans on Lake Fenton Saturday, July 28 at Skipper Bud's Marina, 14026 Fenton Road. This chapter has hosted this once a year event since 2012 as a way for boating enthusiasts to give back to veterans by sharing their boats and showing their appreciation.

The Clarkston Farm and Garden Club awarded four $1,000 scholarships to 2018 Clarkston High School seniors Heather Burrum, Andrew Dimmer, Shaelyn Koleber and Ryan Snyder at their annual picnic. The club awards scholarships to students who show an interest in community service, conservation, environmental issues and gardening.

The demand for Narcan - which can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose - more than doubled from April to June compared to the prior three months this year, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley announced on July 19.In total, Michigan pharmacies dispensed 3,174 orders during that time period, which is considered a high demand for the drug, whose generic name is naloxone, Calley stated in a news release.

The Waterford Township Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying a suspect involved in a recent armed robbery at the 7-Eleven store at 1795 Scott Lake Road.The incident happened July 13.According to police, the suspect entered the store at 12:47 a.m., pointed a pistol at the clerk and told him to put the money from the cash register into a brown bag.

A boy reported missing Sunday was recovered from Walled Lake on Wednesday afternoon. Walled Lake Police Chief Paul Shakinas said a call came in from a boater reporting that a body was in the lake. He added that the body was in "rough shape" after being in the water for what appears to be a few days.

The new city clerk in Farmington is looking forward to continuing some of the initiatives her predecessor championed as well as taking on some new projects of her own.The City Council recently appointed Mary Mullison the new clerk, effective Aug. 31, when the current clerk, Sue Halberstadt, retires.

The American Red Cross will be hosting a community blood drive at Rochester Hills City Hall on Thursday, Aug. 16. The drive will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. These donations will be used to help communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters. Rochester Hills City Hall is located at 1000 Rochester Hills Drive.

The Gift of Giving is holding a back to school supply drive for the Avondale School District. It's the third year the nonprofit has hosted the drive. Both physical donations and financial donations will be accepted from Monday, July 23 to Friday, Aug. 24. Donations can be made online at
